Gastouni is a former Greek municipality on the outskirts of Western Greece (peripheral unit of Elis) with 11523 inhabitants. It is located on the national road Patras-Pyrgos, 27 km northwest of Pyrgos and 67 km southwest of Patras, 70 km away from Ancient Olympia and 4 hours away from Athens. Adorable landscapes, imposing sights, endless beaches are some of the main reasons why someone has to visit this place. What is more, this is the city where you will certainly experience the so-called Greek ”Filoxenia”– hospitality and you will satisfy your gastronomic curiosity with typical and delicious local food.
Gastouni can also be a good starting point to get you involved with the local mentality and people during its different traditions and local festivities. The most significant is the ”Flower festival”, the biggest celebration of Spring and flowers during which citizens, schools and organisations long ago gathered and planned the event, building the huge chariots decorated with flowers that parade on the main street of the city. The event is attended by cultural and sports clubs, NGOs, Centers working with people with disabilities, as well as the dance departments of the municipality. Since 2011, this city has hosted about 1000 interns per year in mobility from more than 12 EU countries.
